How Do I use the $20 CARA spay/neuter program?

 1) Complete print and complete the application by clicking HERE and mail to:

2) You must pick up your voucher at the shelter:

 If you are accepted into CARA’s $20 spay/neuter program, you will be contacted by phone or email

(according to preference indicated on your application). You must pick up your voucher during

CARA business hours at 42 Deep River Road, Sanford, NC, within 10 days of receiving notification

of acceptance to pay the $20 co-pay and receive your voucher. Only Cash will be accepted.

 The Voucher works like a “coupon” for your pet’s surgery and will only be accepted at the Spay Neuter

Veterinary Clinic of the Sandhills (SNVC) in Vass.

3) You call SNVC to make an appointment:

Call Spay Neuter Veterinary Clinic of the Sandhills (910) 692-FIXX (3499) to make your appointment

immediately after receiving your voucher. Appointments at SNVC fill up fast and your voucher

has an expiration date.

4) You take your pet to the appointment:

If your pet has a current rabies vaccine, as required by law, you must bring the certificate with you to

your appointment to avoid re-vaccination.

Be on time for your appointment! If you must cancel, be sure to call the clinic several days before the

appointment. However, remember that your voucher has an expiration date.

How do I qualify for CARA’s $20 spay/neuter program?

You must be a resident of the City of Sanford or Lee County in North Carolina to participate in

CARA’s $20 spay/neuter program.*

 You must own the cat or dog. CARA’s $20 spay/neuter program cannot provide assistance for stray

or feral animals and you cannot apply for vouchers to use for someone else’s pet.*

CARA’s $20 spay/neuter program is for residents who have no other options for financial assistance

for pet spay/neuter. Our funds are limited so it is important that we serve those who most need our

help.

* College students who receive any financial support from parents are not eligible for CARA’s

$20 spay/neuter program unless their parents also qualify financially.*

Proof of qualification:

Note: Copy machines are often found at libraries, post offices, drugstores and office supply stores.

 Enclose a copy of your own adult Medicaid card or Food Stamps card. (Medicaid and Food

Stamps recipients automatically qualify.)

 Or, enclose a copy (just the first page) of the last tax return of each adult in your household.

To qualify without a Medicaid or Food Stamps card, the combined gross income (amount before

taxes are deducted) for your entire household must fall within these guidelines:

 1-person household (you)…$20,147 or less

2-person household………..$27,214 or less

3-person household………..$34,281 or less

4-person household………..$41,348 or less

If you qualify by current income but did not file taxes, or your income has decreased since your last

tax return, please enclose a note of explanation and your best proof of income (W-2’s, checkstubs,

 etc).
