Mushroom (Mushy) is a cuddly, sleepy, loyal, playful, and well-trained dog
that will always let you know when there's a person outside (and inside)
the house. He's very sweet to his person and will greet you by thrashing
around his favorite toys whenever you get home. He's very curious about
cats and other dogs, and has made a few dog friends while in foster care,
but he will walk quickly away if another dog barks at him (he has no
interest in barking back or engaging). He likes breakfast, dogs,
apples*, his toy monkey, balls, playing tug, and running around at the
park. He dislikes strangers (especially when they try to pet him, talk to
him, or look at him), vacuums, hard floors, strange/sudden noises, and
strawberries*. He would do best in a home without many visitors, as he
gets very stressed (meaning he barks and lunges but doesn't bite) when
most people come into the house. He also wakes up and barks every time a
door opens, so a home where everyone sleeps at the same time may be best.
He requires someone who can wrangle him when he wants to say hi to cats,
other dogs, and rabbits. He's very strong! Finally, Mushy will follow his
person around EVERYWHERE. He could be fast asleep but if you leave his
line of sight he'll jump out of bed to make sure you're okay. Mushy is the
BEST companion and he would love to have someone to love and protect.
(*Note that he can't have extra foods on his current diet.)

Our adoption fees are:
Dogs: $155
Cats: $95
Puppies under 4 months: $115 plus S/N Deposit: $100
Kittens under 4 months: $70 plus S/N Deposit: $100

All pets available for adoption have been spayed or neutered (unless under 4 months please read about our adoptions here ), are current on vaccinations and preventatives, and micro-chipped. Cats have been tested and confirmed negative for Feline AIDS and Leukemia. Dogs have been tested for heartworm disease.

Our shelter is located at 42 Deep River Rd in Sanford and is open Tues, Thurs,  & Fri from 3pm - 7pm & Sat from 10-2pm (other times available by appointment). CARA's adoption process and online application can be found at  http://www.cara-nc.org/info/adoption

Every animal that comes into the CARA program is here because one or more events occurred  that led to this animal needing not only a home, but a person or family to love and protect them.
