I am a little German Shepherd Mix and that's why I had to have a German Name. Gertrude means Warm and is actually spelled the same way in German. And I think I will make my German Ancestors proud. You see, today you can find them in all kinds of different jobs. We are watch-dogs, police-dogs, K9 Search & Rescue dogs, Seeing-Eye dogs, Therapy dogs, Companions, Protectors, friends!

And to think that I ended up thrown out on the street with my nine siblings. But we were found by animal-loving people and now, a week or two later, I am the only one left.

I am a puppy and will still have to learn my manners. But other than that I can't find anything wrong with myself. I have the cutest face and I like my ears. And I even look like a real German Shepherd. I started on my shots and preventatives and I will fall under CARA's Spay/Neuter Contract.

If you think I would be perfect for you and your children, you can apply for me online and I can go home after 8-January.

It is CARA's policy to keep any new animal entering the facility in quarantine for 10 days. During this time animals are kept in isolation to ensure their health. They can not be adopted or visited until after their release date!

If you would like to adopt Gertie, please visit CARA to fill out an on-line application or e-mail us at adoptions@cara-nc.org.

Every animal that comes into the CARA program is here because one or more events occurred that led to this animal needing not only a home, but a person or family to love and protect them. Each animal has been loved and cared for by a small and determined group of people who want nothing more than to know each animal is safe for the rest of his or her life. Thank you for looking to adopt!
