SBLHM (Single Black Lab/Hound Mix) Seeks Forever Home
Are you looking for someone to join you for long walks, take for rides in the car, sit next to you on the couch, or sleep in your bed with you? If so, I am your man. My name is Scooter and I am a 1 ½ year old black lab/hound mix. They have me listed as a Beagle, but I have more of a Basset Hound personality. I am very sweet, mellow, laid back, and extremely devoted, but I don't bark or howl like hounds do. I want nothing more than to be by your side. I want to be everyone's best friend. I love meeting new people and dogs when we go for walks. I actually get sad if I don't get to stop and say "Hi" to my human and canine neighbors. If you have to leave me to go to work, I would love to have another dog to keep me company. I am currently living with three kids ranging from 3-13 and two cats. I love the kids so very much, and I don't mind the cats too much. They are fun to chase when they run away from me though! I am housebroken and am working on crate training. I'll sleep in the crate if you make me, but I rather be in bed with you. I will do well if you take me to obedience classes. I already know sit, and we are working on stay and come. I do need a home with a large fenced yard because I love to explore with my nose. Sometimes I lose track of what I'm doing because I'm so busy following all those scents, so I need a fence or leash to keep me safe.
I've had a rough time the last couple of months. I was found as a stray and had been cared for by a very nice lady, but she couldn't keep me. I've been attacked by other dogs, hit by a car, and shot by a shot gun. But I'm a survivor, and I'm not going to let those things bring me down. I've also been going through Heartworm treatment which hasn't been very fun. I must always be on Heartworm prevention from now on. The vet says my heart has been slightly damaged, but I should have a normal life expectancy.

Every animal that comes into the CARA program is here because one or more events occurred that led to this animal needing not only a home, but a person or family to love and protect them. Each animal has been loved and cared for by a small and determined group of people who want nothing more than to know each animal is safe for the rest of his or her life. Thank you for looking to adopt!
