Ruby has brown eyes that will melt your heart. Her birthday is April 1, 2006, her weight is 45 pounds and  her shoulder height is 16 inches.  She's obviously a dog that loves people and needs the attention of someone that loves her. She prefers the indoors and loves to play with toys. Ruby is quiet when toys aren't involved but becomes quite boisterous when intent on catching a ball. She'll roll over for anyone that wants to rub her chest. Ruby would prefer not to have to share your attention with another pet.

Ruby is why organizations like CARA exist - she was left at the county "pound" had a lump on her face, a hernia, was heartworm positive, and had some strange growths on her back. She was thrown away... until CARA was able to bring her into the program.

Ruby underwent a long surgery, removing the lump on her face (which was cancerous but the Dr was able to get clean margins so her prognosis is great), removed a 6 cm X 12 cm portion of skin on her back to remove the growths - which were not cancer just from neglect over the years... had her hernia repaired, and was spayed.

After a month of healing she underwent heartworm treatment and is now heartworm free and is on prevention.

Through it all she is very happy - however she prefers to be your one and only pet. She is good with children, men and women alike too!

All pets available for adoption have been spayed or neutered, are current on vaccinations and preventatives, and micro-chipped. Cats have been tested and confirmed negative for Feline AIDS and Leukemia. Dogs have been tested for heartworm disease.

Our shelter is located at 42 Deep River Rd in Sanford and is open Tues, Wed, Fri & Sat from 10-2pm and Thursdays from 3-7pm (other times available by appointment). Every animal that comes into the CARA program is here because one or more events occurred that led to this animal needing not only a home, but a person or family to love and protect them.
